I wasn't prepared for how old this made me feel.

I literally just watched that less than 24 hours ago.

Still holds up as one of the 90's greatest. So great that I imagine I've never properly given King for a Day it's proper due.

I know what Jinnistan's gonna say about King for a Day vs Angel Dust.  It's still mighty fine listening, imo.
I'm now inspired to make Angel Dust my morning coffee listening.
Nobody gonna give it up for The Real Thing?

Mike Patton may be the only guy who doesn't like Faith No More. He's apparently a notoriously difficult guy to please.
I trust everyone here is up on their Mr. Bungle?
That show we caught in '99 was epic.

I may have been too young for Monsters of Rock in '88, and too sheltered to cross state lines for Primus/Fishbone in '92, but Mr. Bungle in '99 is for me one of those shows you love to brag about. "We were there, man!" And I still have the T–shirt! I've kept it in good condition, too. Only wear it for ultra–special occasions. And no eating while wearing it! It's all white; can't be fuckin' around. It's comfortable, too. Not one of those itchy merch shirts nobody wants to wear.

Mike Patton was born in '68. 'Seems being old ain't so bad, after all.

Ahhhhh...

I bought Disco Volante a few years ago, and the print was almost unlistenable. And I'm not diva about fidelity. But this was just ridiculous. To give a quick idea, they printed it on one disc, half an hour per side. Nothing is going to sound good this way. So I've virtually never listened to it.

I coopted the first Mr. Bungle album from my current girlfriends vinyl collection, which was sitting neglected in some room where she kept here litterboxes. I'm actually not sure if I've ever listened to it yet, but I remember being very stoked that I finally got a copy and I wouldn't have to shill out 100 plus dollars to listen to get it. Free is definitely a price I was willing to pay (well, and a lot of discouragement from me for her not to sell it when I let her know it was a fairly valuable record)

It isn't difficult to see what a tremendous loss in the contributions of the keyboardist (especially) and guitarist who left after Angel Dust.  It's comparable to Fishbone losing two similar songwriters after Give a Monkey a Brain.  They just lost the unique recipe that made them special.

I have that LP.  The first side is pretty harsh, with the first track especially just a huge slab of distortion.  It calms down a bit by "Violenzia Domestica".  Side two is a little tamer, and "The Bends" is pretty great, imo.  Bungle has a very similar ADD-style as The Boredoms.  But definitely get on that first one, which is less caustic in tone, with lots of horns and spicy touches and some amazing vocal gymnastics from Patton.

edit: also curious if your copy of the first one lists the first song as "Travolta" or "Quote Unquote".

Not sure what track is first. But it's an original print picture disc, and from what I'm looking at online, starts with Quote/UnQuote

They had to change the name because Travolta threatened to sue.  I didn't know they put it out on vinyl at the time, but it would have to have been pretty early if it still listed "Travolta".  Just curious.

She was living in England, so it's possible it's an import. She has a stack of original early 90's releases that I have rarely ever seen on vinyl. Certainly never did at the time. Outside of buying Jar of Flies on vinyl back when it was released, I didn't think any of that stuff was ever released in that format. But she's got a pile of them that she bought back in highschool and that she barely ever even played.

I remember her telling me when I came to visit her place for the first time and she told me I could take them all if I wanted, the opportunity danced in my head for a second before I told her a lot of these would probably go for 100 plus dollars in most record stores. That I had to be square with her. So, since I didn't bring them with me, I just decided to move in instead.

But I know why you're here.  To celebrate Sir Paul's 80th Jubilee.  Obvs, I could probably do this all night, so I'll just put some favorite deepish cuts off the top of my head.

And from his last album, which is the kind of McCartney song that lives or dies based on how well you like McCartney at his McCartneyest.  How can I hate a song which can rhyme "toes" with "indoors"?

The other half of what I call The Gershwin Twins, Brian Wilson, will turn 80 tomorrow, so I might as well sing some praises to him as well.

That Dexys Midnight Runners track really builds into geysers, doesn’t it! Sick goddam horns, seriously, holy fuck.

AWBoots, eh? Posterity points given in golden hindsight.
Ladies Night with Jack White. Curious how each has their own style, but they’re all retro in one way or another. I like those last two tracks, Such a Fool and Are You Electric.
Do you think Paul danced on his birthday? At that age it really would be takin' a cha cha cha chance.

That Roach Album, though. That album is the UNGH! It’s the HRRRNNNGH! I believe that title is among the scores from when the Memphis Library sold their record collection, or a bunch of it, anyway.

What am I listening to, today?

Well, lemme first say that yesterday I couldn't resist listening back to both Mr. Bungle’s self–titled album and their third album, California (I think YouTube links are unnecessary at this point). I agree with everything you guys have said already, and for me personally, Disco Volante is my least favorite Bungle album. I’m not knocking it, but the competition is pretty overwhelming. The top–notch personnel on that first album includes avant–garde legend John Zorn, who also produced it. Zorn’s quite a big deal in his own right. JJ and I had the good fortune to see one of his Masadas, which was another amazing show.

But in the wee hours of the morn I saluted the end of the day, bringing it to a sublime close with this mysterious inscription:
