I recently found this record in a dollar bin. I remember really wanting to find it back in my twenties. It's a good thing I didn't though because I'm pretty sure I would have written it off back then. It's the kind of thing I think I only could have appreciated as a little kid or a wizened old music nerd and nothing in between.

I'm slowly starting to feel that Bleach is my favorite Nirvana album. At least studio wise.

I still mostly hate the drumming though.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today?

I am not at the point in my Dylan completionism that the only studio records of his I have never owned are the three "Frank Sintatra" albums he released about a decade ago. And I will get them. I will also need to get the four that I've lost over the years (Time Out of Mind, Love and Theft, Christmas in the Heart, Saved)

And so, for fun, just a quick top 36 off the top of my head.

Highway 67 Revisted
Blood on the Tracks
Blonde on Blonde
Basement Tapes
Freewheelin'
Desire
Bringing It All Back Home
New Morning
Tempest
Street Legal
Times They Are a Changin'
Bob Dylan
Rough and Rowdy Ways
Together Through Life
As Good As I've Been To  You
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
Shadow Kingdom
Oh Mercy
Time Out of Mind
Love and Theft
World Gone Wrong
Nashville Skyline
Modern Times
Dylan
Planet Waves
Slow Train Coming
Self Portrait
Christmas in the Heart
Shot of Love
Infidels
Under the Red Sky
Knocked Out Loaded
Empire Burlesque
Saved
Down in the Groove

The heart hurts, crumbs.  But not nearly as stabbing as your soulful bounding leap right over John Wesley Harding.  And Another Side, with his motorpsycho black crow cracked country lips.  The Chimes, crumbs, what about the Chimes?

You could shuffle the rest around.  Until someone puts together a definitive 80s set (with Jokerman, Brownsville Girl and Blind Willie McTell in one place), none of that is cracking my solid top ten (with mild amendments for reissues):

Highway 6ONE Revisited
Royal Albert Hall (Manchester Free Trade Hall)
Basement Tapes (my own selection)
Blonde on Blonde
John Wesley Harding
Another Side of Bob Dylan
Blood on the Tracks
The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan
Desire
Philharmonic Hall NYC 10-31-64 (Halloween Masque)

Re: What Are You Listening To Today?

Damn, crumbs.  After nagging about leap-frogging, and then I skip Bringing It All Back Home entirely.  Which is odd because I had specifically singled it out to lead another list - favorite sides of Dylan LPs:

Bringing It All Back Home - Side 2 (the most robust flowering of Dylan’s genius, musical and poetic)

John Wesley Harding - Side 1

Blonde on Blonde - Side 4

Great White Wonder - Side 2 (Basement takes of I Shall Be Released, Open the Door, Nothing Was Delivered, Tears of Rage)

Highway 61 Revisited - Side 1

I can't even remember my house number. You're lucky I didn't call it HIghway 007 Revisted.

But not nearly as stabbing as your soulful bounding leap right over John Wesley Harding. And Another Side, with his motorpsycho black crow cracked country lips. The Chimes, crumbs, what about the Chimes?

I dont' know where Harding went. I must have erased it while moving it to another position, then forgot to replace it. I'd probably have had it after New Morning. As for Another Side, I always forget about that one, for whatever reason. Maybe it would come up after Times Are a Changin'.

I don't like the 80's stuff much, but I don't hate it like some do. I find most of them are sufficient as pleasant background accompaniment, only marred with a couple of dog tracks per. Groove is particularly uninspired though (stilll has Death is Not the End though), and the production on Empire is of course extremely distracting.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today?

A lot of people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch of unconnected incidents and things. They don't realize that there's this lattice of coincidence that lays on top of everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in looking for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Everybody's into weirdness right here.
