A preliminary autopsy....

Kamala Harris was not an ideal candidate.  I'm not going to shit on her entirely, but several people around her need to be fired and never hired for political advisor positions again.  The choice to not, after her unprecedented ascension to the nomination, saturate the media with interviews and what the trade calls 'glad-handing' was a mistake   The last minute run through second-hand podcasts and late night appearances was 'too-little-too-late'.  Given my own policy priorities, I would have leaned into the "price-gouging" language, which she never disavowed but which she also never enforced.  Harris' campaign is a classic example of tentative gall.

The fact that Hispanic males increased after the blatantly racist MSG rally is something that sociologists will be studying for years.

As far as I can tell - and reinforced by these last minute gaffes - Joe Biden is not guaranteed to have performed any better had he stayed in the race.

I want to just mention that I don't rememeber this post, and I really don't know exactly what it means.  Wanted to point that out.

Let's look at some other bullshit.  Elon Musk on Joe Rogan:

Musk: There's only like six or seven swing states.  The margin of victory in those states is small, often like 10-20,000 votes.  What the Democrat administration has been doing is importing vast numbers of illegals into swing states.....triple digit increases in the numbers of illegals in swing states, in some cases 700% increases, gigantic numbers.

It's not a swing state anymore.  It's going to vote blue.  And then once the swing states vote blue there is no election anymore.

So...setting aside the conflation of "illegal" immigrants from the completely legal asylum-seeking immigrants...none of whom either way are eligible to vote....for some reason there is some kind of plan to place these immigrants in swing states to....what? 

This!!!  This is the urgent issue on which Musk claims is the existentIial threat to vote to save democracy?!?!? 

The Blame Game is in full force, and I have very little interest in participating.  It isn't a very interesting or insightful endeavor.  I've already pointed out the ill-conceived "riding on vibes" strategy which evaporated Harris' momentum within weeks.  More than half of the country didn't bother to vote.  The doofus far-left are obnoxious, but so is Lynne Cheney.  The media and the algorithms are broken, corrupt instruments of despair.  Etc, etc.

But none of this should let any of the 72 million people who voted for Trump off the hook.  They saw the same fat, fake face as the rest of us, and they liked what they saw.  There were no misunderstandings here, and even if there were, they wouldn't be willing to understand.  In the end, that's the only blame worth casting.  Our neighbors are no longer interested in "Great Society" liberalism.

But one thing, more than any other, that I do have to reject from the headline dogma of the past two days, this election was not a disavowel of the "elites".  That's just buying into the bullshit culture war narratives.  There's a reason why the billionaire class huddled around Trump in the end.  There's a reason why the stock market has been through the roof the last 48 hours.  The true elites, if that word means anything at all, are about to get their president who will shower them with tax cuts, deregulation, increased consolidation and a free pass on their price-gouging/fixing by shutting down any investigations and anti-trust cases against them.  In America, money is the only culture that matters.
 

ok. That's really hard to look at. Hard on the eyes. I thought I was doing a pretty good job of protecting myself emotionally in preparation for this eventuality, and thought I was ready to enter this new phase armed with a satirical sense of humor. I knew there'd be setbacks, but damn, I admit I lost my shit when I saw that.
