I wonder if the stupid fucks who applauded the Will Smith slap, are on board this stupid fuck shit? And if this kinda stupid-fuck shit perhaps continues to escalate, at what point they will stop being such stupid fucking fuck-shits?
There's a part of me that also hopes that people (maybe the same people since most people are not consistent) will not take too much glee in cheering on the boot-stomping that this asshole received. I mean, I get it, he's an asshole, had a knife, god knows what he was willing or capable of doing, but, for me, the sight of about 7 or 8 dudes stomping this guy, and then looking at his wretched body getting loaded on the ambulance, is something that also appeals to the, shall we call them, politely fascist among us. I don't sympathize with the guy, but I'm not going to co-sign on those getting their rocks off through vicarious violence either way.
Oh, I agree. It's all this endless cycle of wanting to see physical punishment doled out on those who we disagree with. And it is becoming clearer and clearer, most people have lost the ability to properly respond by forming arguments or articulating worthwhile opinions of their own (sadly, considering the kind of discourse we see on most social media, punches actually may be a more nuanced way of communicating for some these days).
Like, I get it, assaulting people is a super instinctive thing to want to do to those we dislike or hate. And thinking is harder. But it's all just so unbelievably pathetic. But also, and most distressingly, the most obvious outcome of how wrong headed people have become, of all political stripes, in how they can find threats to their well being everywhere and in everything.
The troubling reality is that violence almost can have the appearance of being an understandable response when we have begun to treat differing opinions as being akin to physical violations. What else could possibly be expected when the general public has begun believing a fucking joke (regardless of context or purpose) poses grievous harm to their well being. I imagine the argument is hitting a comedian who says something you don't like is self defence of some sort. Which is of course absurd, but here we are. When we give traction to the notion that Chappelle is setting back transgendered rights with his routine, then it can seem like an inherently noble thing to rush the stage with a knife. They are protecting a community. From the violence of a joke.
