Re: What Are You Listening To Today?

I'm kinda thinking I might not turn off a Nick Cave/Los Lobos knife fight LP myself, but it does suggest a high bar.

Trying to get more precise perhaps....what would be considered in the genre of "mutant disco"?  Maybe not Talking Heads but maybe Eno/Byrne Bush of Ghosts stuff?  Throbbing Gristle maybe?  Cabaret Voltaire?  Art of Noise?  I mean, there are plenty of eligible contenders for skronky but still beat-oriented music in the post-punk era.  Like Factory Records stuff, Level 42, A Certain Ratio, African Head Charge.  None of that is like Jeff Bridges's stuff.  But it was the '70s, I guess, so, you know, disco or something.

Cabaret Voltaire and Certain Ratio I think would qualify the strongest.

Now here's some doofus disco.

Dream on...drink on...it's just a matter of time, baby....

Look at this slooshy pimp.

Here's what I was thinking of mutant disco, mutated brain-floor flavor.  Take one a day.  Monitor the perineum.

I had to get the Sun Ra set for the two-night concert, Nuits de la Fondation Maeght.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today?

John Zorn's Painkiller (w/Bill Laswell) has quietly released three new albums over the past year, after being largely dormant, except for a few select shows, over the previous 30.

My brain is burning down trying not to buy the Scratch Acid box set I only just ten seconds ago realized even existed.

Box?  I thought everything they did could fit on one CD.  Greatest Gift, right?  I guess someone found some live shows or something?

A lot of people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch of unconnected incidents and things. They don't realize that there's this lattice of coincidence that lays on top of everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in looking for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Everybody's into weirdness right here.
