Re: The Morgue

That reminds me that I have an Erkin Koray record!

All this death has its rewards afterall.

Re: The Morgue

Under the radar, Brian McBride of the seminal Stars of the Lid, a pioneering post-rock/ambient outfit from the legendary Kranky label in the late 90s/early 00s.  I haven't listened to them in probably a decade, and McBride had a few solo and side releases I haven't heard.  I'm hoping for a Kranky boxset to champion all of these unsung artists.  McBride was 53.

Re: The Morgue

Jazz bassist Richard Davis, at 93, played with many greats from Eric Dolphy, Mingus to Rahsaan Kirk and Pharoah Sanders.

But to keep it short and sweet...

Re: The Morgue

All of these wimpy little pop culture snots talking about Harry Potter....

Until they sit down and watch The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, without texting breaks, then they can come back and tell me all about who Michael Gambon was.

Re: The Morgue

Terence Davies, the British director, passed away last week without much fanfare.

He makes the kind of films that one feels they should see, and never get around to, and I admit to only seeing two of his films (House of Mirth and Deep Blue Sea), while at least two others remain buried down on watchlists from years ago.  Maybe this is why no one seemed to notice his death.

And (one probably only I care about about) Herschel Savage.

Re: The Morgue

Carla Bley, pianist and percussionist, helped bridge the gap between free jazz, modern classical and prog-rock.

I shall revisit 1986's House as an honor to the late and mighty Bull the Bailiff.

I remember seeing House in the theater and thinking it was pretty much the best thing I'd ever seen. And the fact that it had someone from Night Court, the best tv show I'd ever seen, made it ever better

I bet no one will watch House 2 when Cliff Clavin dies.

Re: The Morgue

Old Marty Krofft.

Already by the time I was a kid, the Krofft-verse was derogatorially seen as knock-off muppets, and it's pretty clear that none of them would ever reach the impact of Henson's creations.  But, at the the time when I was a kid, they were still wild and colorful enough to be both fun and vaguely frightening.

Re: The Morgue

I guess I should mention Henry Kissinger if only so I can congratulate Jimmy Carter for outliving the guy who actually was responsible for the East Timor massacre.

Re: The Morgue

The only nice thing I can say about Henry Kissinger is that his wife was really hot. Oh, and the fake Kissinger in the second Ilsa movie is pretty funny.
