I feel sad for people who can't appreciate Raimi's Crimewave. Probably because I easily could have been one of them. The opening 10 minutes really did not feel promising. I thought I had ruined the night with this choice. The humour felt forced, Raimi's overwhelming style seemed to cramp out any nuance, it felt like it was leaning towards the weird for weird's sake, as if the director was frightened such a huge detour from the bloody garishness of Evil Dead might alienate fans. So even in a comedy, everything had to be dialed up to 11.
But I stuck with it and once you acclimatize to its tone, its a big goofy miracle of a film. It doesn't exist in any reality, and you can't truly get a grasp of any of the characters because they are barely even people, but as a piece of film it really is the bridge between the horror of the original Evil Dead and the 3 Stooges quality of its sequel. Does some of it fall flat? Maybe a little. But it just keeps trucking along towards some other bizarro world site gag or weird non-sequitor or fucked up character detail. It's fun and inventive and desperate for attention that, thankfully, it mostly deserves.

Good sum–up and nice stills. "Captain of the Elevator!"
I have mountains of love for Crimewave and I know Jininstan will say the same. It has residence in that "special place" in the hearts of Raimi fans, Coen Brothers fans, and Raimi/Coen Brothers fans, showing the nascent potential that would blossom into the body of work we know and love while still delivering a damn fun time and some top–notch laughs (along with some painfully over–the–top). It feels like a window into their early development, where we find Raimi honing his skills at directing slapstick (at least I think Crimewave counts as "slapstick" but I don't have a strong command of film critic vocab), and in some of those shots of Louise Lasser and Brion James I like to think I'm witnessing early evidence of the Coens' hallmark ability to find humorous potential in the faces of actors not typically known for comedy (Nicholas Cage and George Clooney come immediately to mind).
Is that the only comedy Brion James ever did? Because if Crimewave is any indication, he should have done more.

Wait? That was Brion James? I kept wondering "who is that actor that looks like Brion James"? and couldn't figure it out.
No, I don't google things. I like to torture myself with not knowing anything.
As for the film itself, I have to honest and say I hadn't even heard of the thing until five or six years ago when Jinnistan mentioned it. And I was 'wait....Raimi did a picture between the Evil Deads?....it's a comedy?'. Then promptly forgot about it.
But it showed up on Tubi when I was looking for a different Crimewave (some Canadian piece of shit) and immediately remembered how I had to watch it.
Good times.

It took me the longest time to realize there are two different Crime Waves from 1985.

Or maybe openly calling Siddon a fuck is acceptable there.

possibly my last post at movieforums
In my appeal to eventual punishment for my recent ungracious comments about a fellow gentleman poster, even though I take full blame for telling Siddon to go **** himself and expect fair and swift punishment for doing so, that it at least be considered how many absolutely amazing insults I did not post out of my general sense of decency. Surely this should count for something, considering how painful it was for me to not properly employ them.

I award points for your conscientiousness.

Apparently calling Siddon a pathetic cunt and telling him to go fuck himself only warrants the faintest of slaps on the wrist.
I get a feeling no one likes that guy very much, including the moderators.

I think his belligerent posting style has made him few friends.

The guy is delusional. His claim is he did nothing wrong, only called people who liked a movie liars and in on some secret conspiracy, and that should be his right. But because I've pushed back on him, I am a bully harassing someone who has done nothing wrong.
He's also refusing to take Wyldsides word that he liked Dielman, and finds the fact he watched it with another mofoer suspicious and possible evidence he's in on the conspiracy.
He's a nut bag

I guess I was only technically banned for telling Yarn to go fuck himself. I was actually banned for pointing out how Yoda protects the kind of racist posts that Yarn was making. Steer clear of the latter and you'll be alright.
So was this in the S&S thread, I guess? I actually haven't taken a look at their forum for several days.

Yes the sight and sound thread. And I really should have gone further in annihilating him, but I held back because I was already so fed up with Yarn in the frame rate thread I didn't have the energy to do much more than call him some names
He is just astoundingly stupid and arrogant and thin skinned. A wonderful combination for a person to talk about film with.
The fact that he seems completely baffled how accusing everybody of being liars and calling them pretentious and a bunch of phonies might aggravate some, but then appeals to being the victim.
And while I understand Yoda taking my more belligerent posts down, I see he's left most of Siddons bullshit untouched. Which seems strange since he seemed to understand how Siddons posting happened to aggravate me to the point I could have skull fucked him.

Are you saying Yoda is not moderating with any real consistency?

"Causation doesn't have to mean correlation...."
Hahaha. Oh, Jesus, what a moron.
I guess Yoda already axed your spicier posts before I got there.
